The Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship: Caribbean graduated its first cohort of “official entrepreneurs” last week, selecting eight Virgin Islands business owners who now have access to a deep pool of resources meant to help them expand their enterprises.

The winners were selected from a pool of 111 businesspeople who started the 12-week programme.

Of those original participants, about 25 went to the centre’s in-person workshops, and 13 submitted the “pitch decks” required to complete the programme.

Those pitch decks — condensed business plans that entrepreneurs use to obtain funding from financial institutions — were evaluated by Branson Centre officials on the basis of financial details, projections for future growth, and other detailed criteria, said KPMG Director Jacques Roux, whose firm is partnering with the Branson Centre for the initiative.

The registration deadline for the next class in the VI is Aug. 5.
