The Ministry of Communications and Works has experienced administrative delays in attending to bush-cutting across the territory, according to MCW Permanent Secretary Ronald Smith-Berkeley.

The delays were caused by “changes that had to be made to the way that contracts for bush-cutting are awarded as a result of the implementation of recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry Report,” according to a government press release that cited the PS.

“There were many processes that had to be revised in our daily operations,” he added. “This was one of those things
that came under the umbrella of revision for contracts.”

A comprehensive review of the bush-cutting policy and ad- ministrative issues is underway, but the ministry and its agencies are implementing measures to address the situation in the meantime, according to the PS.

For instance, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Waste Management will be giving “additional attention in the maintenance of the territory’s main road network,” GIS noted.

PWD Director Jeremy Hodge said his agency “will continue to do its part to ensure safety on the roadways, and the clearing of obstructions on the roadways include bushes, rocks, tree limbs and the like,” according to GIS.

Acting DWM Manager Neville Allen said his department is also using its current collection zone schedule to assist in keeping the territory clean, the release stated.
