DG job

The government is inviting all qualified Virgin Islanders to apply for the deputy governor position by Aug. 25.

The job will become officially vacant when Rosalie Adams’ term ends on March 1, 2018. According to government’s website, the deputy governor’s role is to “assist the governor in the exercise of his functions in matters of governance, national/security/public safety and court administration.” Ms. Adams was appointed to act as deputy governor last August and was confirmed in the position on Sept. 1, 2016. She took over from DGO Permanent Secretary David Archer, who acted in the position from June 2-July 31, 2016 after Inez Archibald took leave.

Property taxes

The public can now review the 2017 property tax assessment list, according to Government Information Services. Copies of the list are posted in public buildings and other places throughout the territory, and lists can be requested at the Inland Revenue Department branches on Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Property owners on Tortola, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke may object about the assessed tax at the Magistrates’ Court at Johns Hole at 9 a.m. on Sept. 1, according to GIS. Virgin Gorda property owners can object at 10 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the Magistrates’ Court in The Valley, Virgin Gorda. This year’s property taxes are due on Sept. 1.
