Bahamas

The Bahamas will receive a $50 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank to improve the country’s air transport system, bank officials said.  The loan will finance a transportation reform programme that will introduce a “modern civil aviation regulatory regime, create an independent entity to investigate aviation incidents and accidents, and modernise the existing air traffic control infrastructure,” according to an IDB press release. The programme will also include moves to increase competition among air carriers, the release added.

Antigua and Barbuda

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is to be reviewed to see if it is carrying out its function. John Maginley, the country’s tourism minister, said while presenting his government’s budget during a legislative session last week that the three-year-old body’s work should be assessed. “I think the time has come where we have to look at it seriously and see if it is carrying out the function that was intended or if there are some new functions that need to be given, or if we have to do away with it altogether,” he said, according to the Antigua Observer.
