Lecture series

H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is holding another lecture series this spring on a variety of political and economic issues affecting the Virgin Islands and the wider region.

The series will kick off next Thursday with a talk on the “Constitutional and political model for the strategic development of the BVI” delivered by Gerard Farara QC and Dr. Carlyle Corbin, a former minister of state for the external affairs of the United States Virgin Islands. On Feb. 16, University of the West of England international relations professor Dr. Peter Clegg will speak about the Brexit and its “impact and options for the BVI.” On March 16, former University of the West Indies professor Dr. Rhoda Reddock will deliver a lecture on International Women’s Day. Finally, on April 20, Morgan State University Political Science Department Chairman Dr. Max Hilaire will speak on how the Donald Trump administration could affect the Caribbean. All lectures are scheduled to be held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium from 7:30 p.m.

LTE launch

Digicel held a press conference on Monday to celebrate the official launch of its LTE network, which the company says will provide faster internet speeds for its customers. Digicel General Manager Kevin Gordon said the network covers 74 percent of Tortola and 84 percent of Virgin Gorda, and will cover the entirety of both islands by the end of February.
