Job fair

Several government departments will co-host a job fair tomorrow aimed at recent H. Lavity Stoutt Community College graduates, students on study leave, and students on government scholarships. The annual National Scholars Forum and Job Fair will be held at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex at 9 a.m.  For more information call 468-3701 ext. 4790, ext. 2044, or ext. 3086.

PSC appointments

Governor Boyd McCleary recently named Julian Clarke and Keturah Crabbe to short terms on the Public Service Commission, which oversees public officers’ conduct. Mr. Clarke began serving a one-year term on the PSC that took effect June 2 while Ms. Crabbe began serving a three-month term on June 20, according to a notice published in last Thursday’s Gazette.

Postal fees

Residents with mailboxes who haven’t paid their postal fees have had their boxes locked, according to Government Information Services. BVI Post officials took the action on July 8, and customers have until July 26 to pay their outstanding bills plus a $15 reinstatement fee, or have their boxes taken away for good, according to GIS.

Disease law

The Infectious Diseases Notification Act, which aims to bring the territory in line with international standards for reporting contagious diseases, took effect on June 28, according to the Gazette. Under the law, medical practitioners who suspect that their patients have one of 40 diseases have to report them to the territory’s chief medical officer.
