A Cayman Islands government ministry is working on creating a national energy policy that moves the island away from fossil fuels and toward renewable industry. The Ministry of District Administration, Works, Land and Agriculture will consider the territory’s electricity needs, transportation policy, water supply, building codes and environmental issues in crafting the policy, according to a CI government press release.

Haiti

A teaching hospital being built in central Haiti to assist with rebuilding efforts after the January 2010 earthquake is nearly 50 percent complete, according to the non-profit Partners in Health. The Teaching Hospital of Mirebalais, a 320-bed facility being built 30 miles north of Port-au-Prince, is a partnership between that organisation and the Haitian government. When complete, the hospital will serve more than 140,000 residents in the area, according to Partners in Health.

Trinidad and Tobago

The inflation rate in Trinidad and Tobago declined to a 6.4 percent rate in April, down from a 9.4 percent increase in March, the country’s central bank announced last week.At the same time the rate of inflation is decreasing, the availability of credit in the private sector is improving, a sign of economic recovery, according to the Trinidad Guardian.
