The Cavaliers Cricket Club took its fourth successive 20-20 domestic championship title with a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Vikings Sports Club on Sunday at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Grounds during the Scotiabank tournament.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Vikings top order batsman found runs hard to come by, managing 46 runs for the loss of two wickets after the first 11 overs. The team attempted some big hitting to get to a respectable score, a hat trick by Julian Sinclair in his first over again pegged them back.

Mr. Sinclair went on to complete a man-of-the-match 5 for 49 off his four overs and the Vikings were only able to get to 123 all out in their 20 overs.

Richard Fredericks was again the best batsman for the Vikings, scoring 32. He was supported by Govin Singh and Anil Mahabir with 25 and 23, respectively.

Although the Vikings prepared to defend its score, it appeared to be easy sailing for the defending champions, as they reached 124 for 3 in 17.4 overs.

Keith Semple led the way with 60 not out, while Dorian Auguiste made 29. Steve Sinclair, who bowled with some pace, took 1 for 15, while Mahendra Moonesar got 1 for 17 and Vaden Walker 1 for 23.

Mr. Walker, the Vikings captain, said he was pleased with his team reaching the finals for the first time, but admitted they fell short of posing a challenging enough total, in particular with the Cavaliers fresh from chasing 202 in the semi-finals against Virgin Gorda.

Cavaliers captain Teddy Nankisore, who earlier in the tournament led the way with his batting, thanked the entire team for their support and commitment, although he acknowledged being a bit nervous before the finals.

Along with the winning trophy, the Cavaliers picked up $2,000, while the Vikings collected the runner-up trophy and $1,500.

The game was watched by a large crowd, including HLSCC President Dr. Karl Dawson and Scotiabank Small Business Manager Andy Davis, who both participated in the award ceremony after the match.
