At-large Representative Archie Christian and Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn were sworn in as junior ministers Wednesday.

The position, which Premier Dr. Orlando Smith promised to create when he was sworn in after the June election, will see the two appointees assist government ministers with economic matters.

According to a press release issued Thursday, Mr. Christian will be responsible for tourism and Mr. Penn will be responsible for trade and investment, both matters that fall under the Premier’s Office.

At the swearing in ceremony, to which the press was not invited, Dr. Smith said that he was “pleased” to recommend each man to the post, according to Government Information Services.

“They are both filled with creative ideas about the economic development of the territory, and I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years,” Dr. Smith said.
