Two men accused of tossing 24 kilograms of cocaine overboard a vessel while being pursued by officers from the Customs Department and the United States Customs and Border Patrol returned to the Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a reporting date on their case.

Leshaughan Smith and Tarik Aaron are both facing a charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Senior Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly told Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards on Friday that the Crown has gathered eight witnesses who are prepared to testify, and is expecting the trial will take three days.

He added that prosecutors are still waiting on some information from the United States Customs and Border Patrol.

Ms. Richards instructed the defendants to return on Dec. 9 for another reporting date.

Both men were placed on remand after their first appearance at the Magistrates’ Court in February, but Mr. Aaron has since been granted bail.
