Complaints Commissioner Elton Georges is investigating the process of applying for certificates of residence under the Immigration and Passport Act.

The goal of the probe “is to establish what happens, in general, to applications after they are presented at the Department of Immigration for consideration by the Board of Immigration and the Cabinet, which makes the ultimate decision,” according to a press release from Mr. Georges’ office.

Many applicants say that after submitting their documents they do not receive a response for years, and then they sometimes have to resubmit documents, the press release said, adding, “This investigation will look at what takes place and why.”

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is invited to contact the commission by e-mail at complaints@gov.vg or complaints@ombudsman.vg, or by mail to the office at 80 Main Street, Road Town, or to P.O. Box 4628.
