Some Sea Cows Bay residents are concerned that a $30 million proposal to expand the Nanny Cay Marina will negatively affect Hannah Bay and won’t benefit them economically.

Residents weighed in at a public meeting hosted by the Planning Authority on July 27 to discuss the proposal to increase the size of the facility’s boatyard and bring the total number of slips to 410, which would allow for larger megayachts to dock there. About 30 people attended the two-hour meeting, which was held at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre in Sea Cows Bay.

Cameron McColl, the developer behind the project, said Nanny Cay has grown rapidly since he purchased it in 2000 while it was under receivership. Now, the facility is at full capacity, he said.

“We have no more space for boats on the water, and we have no more space for boats on the land, and we’ve been turning away boats every single day, virtually, for the last two years,” he said.
