A man has been charged with unlawful drug possession after a police search of his vehicle in Baughers Bay last Thursday yielded 14 blocks of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.5 million, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Deron Walters, 29, was charged with unlawful possession of cocaine; unlawful possession of cocaine with intent to supply; unlawful possession of marijuana; and resisting arrest, Ms. Drayton said.

Police Commissioner Michael Matthews praised the officers who carried out the search.

“It is the extra efforts of my officers that brought about this discovery since they were just on patrol in the area when the suspect was met and questioned,” he said. “He became verbally abusive, and as a result he and his vehicle were searched. I commend the officers for their diligence.”

Police investigations are ongoing.
