Eight suspected illegal immigrants were detained on Peter Island on Saturday, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

The Police Marine Branch and the Customs Department detained the eight people, who are suspected to be Cuban nationals, Ms. Drayton said. There were four males and four females, she said.

She added that all eight are being held at the Immigration Detention Centre, and that other information must be obtained through the Immigration Department.

Officials at the Immigration Department did not return calls seeking comment before the Beacon’s print deadline yesterday afternoon.
