Much of the West End Police Station got a fresh coat of paint this month as part of the Department of Waste Management’s Summer Beautification Programme held each August.

This year, eight young men who reside in the First District painted the station’s offices, holding cells, main entrance stairway, and driveway, according to the Police Information Office.

“The DWM hosts the programme in an effort to increase the skills and knowledge base of the territory’s young people,” a PIO press release states.

The district projects include the restoration or beautification of public structures and historic sites and the provision of assistance to senior citizens within the communities.

Each district is given a budget to cover the costs of supplies and a stipend for the young workers to complete an assigned project.

Inspector Teddy Creque, who oversees the West End Police Station, and project supervisor Irad Smith said they both used the opportunity to “impart lessons on building good character and values,” the release states.
