A record 13 teams have registered for this year’s Digicel 20/20 Cricket tournament slated for Sunday at the Greenland Grounds in East End.

The tournament will start with two matches scheduled for 10 a.m.

The teams have been split into four groups for the first round. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.

Group One: New Testament Church of God, Vincy C.C. and Island Boys.

Group Two: Under the Tree, Road Town Wholesale and Grenada.

Group Three: Wolues, Police, Vikings and Jamrock.

Group Four: Royal Knights, SDA and Cavaliers.

The Royal Knights and Under the Tree are both new teams for this year’s league.

The second round will feature two groups of four teams. The top teams from each group will play for the championship trophy and $2,000 in prize money.

“Even more exciting than what should prove a highly competitive series of games at Greenland Grounds, is the partnership with Digicel to enhance the spectator experience,” said BVI Cricket Association President Charlie Jackson. “Over the years the support has been fantastic from the fans, despite the unfriendly nature of the facility.”

Mr. Jackson added, “This year the new board and Digicel will be introducing many new initiatives to make sure our supporters can relax and enjoy the excitement. These will include new seating areas, more overhead coverage, giveaways, raffles, a revamped food and beverage court, promotional material and entertainment between games.”
