A 60th anniversary is often called the “diamond anniversary,” and 2012 marks Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne.

The United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will celebrate throughout the year, including a visit by The Duke of Gloucester to the Virgin Islands, according to a press release from the Governor’s Office.

The duke is among various members of the royal family who will travel overseas representing the Queen throughout the Diamond Jubilee year. They will visit every Commonwealth realm and various Commonwealth countries, as well as the Crown dependencies and British overseas territories, the release states.

The Duke of Gloucester, Richard Alexander Walter George, is the Queen’s first cousin.
