Navarre Donovan, 11, enjoys all kinds of music, but Christmas songs are his favourite, he said on Saturday shortly after watching the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Christmas Concert.

About 250 concertgoers were entertained by HLSCC’s ensembles and chorales during the show, which was part of the college’s 21st Performing Arts Series.

The evening began with four pieces by the Woodwind Ensemble, followed by a medley from the HLSCC Stingray Singers.

Later, the college’s Chorale and Jazz Ensemble took the stage.

“I especially liked the Jazz Ensemble,” said Navarre, a student at Elmore Stoutt High School. “I liked that they mixed all of the different genres, and also the different Christmas songs.”

Though the turnout at the concert was a little lower than usual, the performances were well received, said Linette Baa, coordinator of the Performing Arts Series.

“We came up to a slow start with our first concert of the season, but I think once people see what we have, we’ll get a good response,” Ms. Baa said.
