Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool speaks at the launch of new licence plates commemorating 60 years of August Emancipation Festival celebrations in the VI.
The image on the new plate, which features fungi musicians and a woman cooking, comes from a painting by VI artist Joseph Hodge.

Mr. Hodge’s winning design was chosen from among 16 others submitted.

The plates, which are available at the Pockwood Pond and the Virgin Gorda offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles, were the brainchild of acting Motor Vehicle Commissioner Kye Rymer.

Four hundred of the plates will be issued, prompting Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool to call them “limited edition” during a Thursday morning launching ceremony.

See the June 26, 2014 edition for full coverage.
