“One, two, three! Now the hips! Let’s go!” fitness instructor Lisa Adamson called out to a group of about 30 women at the Festival Village Grounds in Road Town on Monday.

The women, who wore pink shirts, were participating in a Zumba fitness session organised by the BVI Cancer Society as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ms. Adamson led weekly Zumba classes throughout the month, with the number of women growing each week, she said.

“More women are attending the class each year,” said the instructor, who has held the Zumba classes for four years.
Other activities throughout the month included early morning walks and afternoon runs, said Gloria Fahie, president of the BVICS.

“It has been a very hectic month,” she added.

The society also visited schools to educate students about the illness.

“More needs to be done in educating students on proper diet,” Ms. Fahie said. “And also ensure the food sold in schools is healthy for the children.”
