The Department of Agriculture will soon start rounding up stray animals around the territory, Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering said during last Thursday’s House of Assembly meeting.

The Strategic Feral Animal Control Management Plan, which Dr. Pickering announced in HOA, is designed to reduce the territory’s wild fowl, roaming cattle, and stray dog and cat populations, he said.

The plan estimates there are 1,500 feral dogs, 2,000 feral cats, 5,000 wild chickens and 500 owned but roaming cattle, according to the minister.

The Department of Agriculture will use baiting, trapping and corralling methods to reduce the feral animal populations, he said.

Under the plan, the department will also work with non-governmental organisations to spay and neuter both owned and stray dogs and cats.
