An agreement with VI Airlink will give travellers from Europe more reliable air access to the territory via Antigua, Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said Thursday afternoon during a press briefing that covered various topics.

Through a government subsidy, VI Airlink will offer a route that is already covered by LIAT, but it will be more consistent, Dr. Smith said.

The Airlink trips will take place Saturdays and Sundays beginning Nov. 1, and the flights will be accessible via GDS, a global airline reservation system, connecting with other flights offered by British Airways and Spirit Airlines, according to the premier.

Dr. Smith said the exact amount of the government subsidy is still under negotiation.

The premier also gave other updates and fielded reporters’ questions on a range of international and local topics, including the Virgin Islands’ efforts to get off the French “black list,” the next general election, and the Public Accounts Committee report on the cruise pier development.
