Tameka Johnson and Brenda Herman each received the key to a new home last week as part of the government’s Housing Recovery Assistance Programme.

Health and Social Development Marlon Penn handed over the keys during separate ceremonies on March 27, according to Government Information Services.

Ms. Johnson’s home in Sea Cows Bay was built by K&C Construction, which received a $194,341.40 contract for the project following a February 2021 Cabinet decision.
Ms. Herman’s was erected by Building Construction Management Group Ltd., which received a $208,385.74 contract following a July 2021 Cabinet decision.

The homes are the 20th and 21st that have been completed since the Housing Recovery Assistance Programme was launched and funded with about $15 million after hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, accordingto Mr. Penn.

More to come

Also as part of the programme, he said, eight more new homes are at various stages of the tendering process, and more than 200 have been repaired.

“We intend to continue this process moving forward,” he added. “We want to commend everyone involved in the process: the contractors, the ministry, the minister before me, and all the people who worked to make this process a reality.”

Mr. Penn also encouraged residents in need to apply for the programme.

Ms. Johnson said she was grateful for receiving the newhome while she was at one of the lowest points in her life, according to GIS.

Ms. Herman also expressed gratitude, GIS stated.
