Government employees’ health insurance premiums will rise significantly today under a new insurance provider.

At the Central Administration Building on Tuesday, officials briefed a gathering of more than 200 public sector workers, some of whom criticised the price increases under the new plan from the provider Hyperion Risk Solution Limited for Bupa Insurance Company.

Policies for employee-only coverage, for example, will cost an additional $22.40 per month; employee-and-family coverage will increase by $149.98 per month, according to a circular from the Human Resources Department. Government covers 50 percent of the cost of employee rates, the circular added.

Lisa Donovan, human resource manager for benefits, addressed the crowd and said that government is confident that employees will receive better service under the new provider.
