Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering must reconsider his Nov. 30, 2012 decision to refuse to renew a trust company manager’s work permit because it was unfair of him not to explain the reasons behind his action or give her an adequate chance to defend herself, a judge ruled Friday.

In 2011 and 2012 several employees of Citco BVI Limited had repeatedly complained to Dr. Pickering, the minister of natural resources and labour, about the firm’s working environment and its then-managing director, Nicola Gillespie.

They levied accusations that they had been “harassed” and “victimised” and that their employer harboured “racial and prejudicial sentiments,” Dr. Pickering claimed.

Citco disputed the allegations and along with Ms. Gillespie sued Dr. Pickering seeking judicial review of his decision to refuse the manager’s work permit.
