On Sunday, the Ballstarz, the Under-15s and the Panthers all had a chance of winning the Marlon Penn Nine-a-Side Women’s League at the Greenland Grounds.

 

The Under-15s had a large lead going into the final, but the Panthers took the championship when they shut out their opponent and scored seven goals.

In he first game, the Ballstarz played the Avengers, who started the game with only seven players. The Ballstarz jumped out to a 3-0 lead just before half time, but an Avenger injury left the team unable to continue and the match was called off by an official.

The injury took the Avengers down to just six players. The rules state at least seven players must be on the field for the game to continue.

Murcella Gordon scored the opening goal, while Emily Lockhart and Tevern David set up Victoria Medley Parkins for the second goal. Ms. David scored the Ballstarz third and final goal.

In the final game of the league, the Under-15s played the Panthers.

After several missed scoring opportunities, the Panthers got on the board first when Amanda Creese scored from close range. Seven minutes later, Ali Hamilton scored the Panthers’ second goal. The third goal came in the 25th minute from Marie Lumley, who scored on a rebound after Akira Phillip saved Ms. Hamilton’s free kick.

Ms. Hamilton scored her second goal and the Panthers’ fourth goal just before half time.

In the second half, Ms. Hamilton scored her third goal in the 35th minute with a low drive. Nicky Wheatley hit a shot on goal in the 40th minute.

At 6-0, the goal difference for both teams was identical as were the points total, but Ms. Hamilton scored her fourth in the 45th minute to make it 7-0 to win the championship.

In the men’s championship, the Islanders held onto a 1-0 half time lead, with score coming from Ranalie Caines, to beat the Ballstarz and win the title.
