Many people may not be willing to plant fruits or vegetables, but are willing to risk their freedom by planting marijuana, according to Claudia Creque Educational Centre student Lawrence Wheatley.

Mr. Wheatley was participating in the first debate of the Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition, which began Thursday evening at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall between CCEC and Cedar International School.

The debate series will continue on Saturday and the finals will be held during Education Week scheduled to begin on March 13.

CIS students were proposing the notion “The legalisation of marijuana will result in the socioeconomic decline of the Virgin Islands,” while their CCEC counterparts argued against the notion.
