Charges have been laid against a man suspected of a hit-and-run against a pedestrian on Zion Hill in early February, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Javier Maduro, 21, of Carrot Bay, was arrested and charged with reckless driving after allegedly striking Asiyah Mahoney and fleeing the scene.

Ms. Mahoney had to be taken to Peebles Hospital with serious injuries, said Ms. Drayton.

She was in critical condition shortly after the incident, and was airlifted overseas, where she continues to undergo treatment, said BVI Health Services Authority Communications Officer Franka Potter.

Ms. Potter said she could not provide any more information because the victim’s family does not want details of the accident publicised.

Mr. Maduro was granted $10,000 with surety to appear at Magistrates’ Court on May 16.
