Not everyone can fly a kite, and Davin James wants to make sure his children learn the skill.

“I grew up flying kites, and I want to make sure they can too,” Mr. James said of his daughters, Caitlin, 7, and Danica, 9, during the Guyanese Association’s annual kite-flying event on Monday. “It takes a bit of practice to get good at it.”

The St. Vincent native said that in the future he would like to build kites with his daughters.

“I think they’re still kind of young for that,” Mr. James said. “They just want to get outside and get the kite in the air.”

Early in the event, some dozen kites were already flying, with more getting ready to go up.

For the first time this year, the event was held at Fantasea in Duffs Bottom because of the ongoing construction at its usual location on Wickhams Cay. While admission was free, association members sold snacks and drinks to raise funds.
