As part of efforts to improve service delivery, the Labour Department will hold special training on Thursday.

That day, the department’s Tortola and Virgin Gorda branches will be closed until 1 p.m., when regular office hours will resume.

Chief Records Officer Christopher Varlack and Deputy Chief Training Officer Hazel Benjamin are to facilitate the session, along with other senior public officers in the department, according to Government Information Services.

The training will focus on the 2010 Labour Code, effective communication, customer service, professionalism, records management and report writing.

“Although this is a short training, we recognise the need to have a unified approach to the kind of service we give to the public,” said Acting Labour Commissioner Janice Rymer. “This meeting is important because quality service is important.”

According to GIS, the government “has recognised the need for improved customer service across all industries and as a national priority aims to create and establish the best practices and a well trained staff to improve performance.”
