Both defence attorney Corine George and Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham asked High Court Justice Nicola Byer on Friday that Walter Cameron not be incarcerated after a jury found him guilty of indecent assault on Feb. 20.

Mr. Cameron, 62, allegedly offered the complainant — a 43-year-old woman who is his neighbour at West End — a ride home from Moose Bar in East End on the night of Jan. 28, 2012.

But instead of giving her a ride home, he drove her around and made repeated unwanted sexual advances, groping her inner thigh and trying to kiss her, according to the complainant.

Mr. Cameron was also charged with abduction, but found not guilty.

Mr. Graham started the hearing by laying out what he considered the aggravating and mitigating factors of the case.

Ms. George started her statement by telling Justice Byer that Mr. Cameron is a lifelong Virgin Islander, married, and a father of three children.

Justice Byer said she would take into account all the information presented and render a verdict soon, contacting both parties when she does.
