Governor Boyd McCleary officially pinned Lorna Smith during an investiture ceremony at the Government House, making her an officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

During the proceedings, Mr. McCleary spoke about Ms. Smith’s long career in the public service.

As permanent secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office from 1989 to 1997, she played an important role in modernising the tourism sector, he said.

“She oversaw the establishment of the territory as a premier high-end destination and launched a yachtsman-friendly campaign that established the territory as a centre for yacht charters, which is now the backbone of the tourist industry,” the governor said.
