The second person facing trial for a sex crime in the May Assizes was exonerated Thursday when a High Court jury acquitted Nathaniel Malone of rape charges.

Mr. Malone, 28, of Baughers Bay, was arrested in August 2012 and charged with three counts of rape, which the Crown claimed were committed against a girl under the age of 13.

After a nearly two-week trial that started June 2, he walked out of the courtroom with his arms outstretched, a free man.

The defendant was represented by attorney Marie-Lou Creque.

In the first case of this round of High Court matters, John Bally was also found innocent of raping a girl under the age of 13.

Both trials were held in camera at the Crown’s request, being closed to media and the public because they involved allegations of a sex crime involving a minor.
