A 43-year-old Virgin Islander appeared in Magistrates’ Court last week charged with indecently assaulting, raping and sodomising his daughter. He has denied the allegations, according to prosecutors.

Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens ordered the man’s name not to be disclosed, to protect the privacy of the alleged victim, who is now 11.

The defendant is charged with three counts of indecent assault, one count of buggery and two counts of rape.

The defendant was granted $80,000 bail with signed surety and ordered to have no contact with the virtual complainant, who Ms. Hanley said remains fearful for her life. Ms. Stephens also ordered him to surrender his passport and report twice weekly to the Road Town Police Station.

A preliminary inquiry, to determine whether the case will proceed to the High Court, was scheduled for July 23.
