Nelson Callwood, who is accused of threatening to kill a girl’s family unless she sent him nude photographs, appeared at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face a charge of child pornography.

According to Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly, the virtual complainant received an iPad in October 2013, and joined ooVoo, an online social media site.

She met the defendant in one of the site’s chat rooms, said the prosecutor, and during one of their conversations, he allegedly instructed her to send him photographs of her private parts.

“He threatened to kill her family if she did not comply,” Mr. Kelly said.

The girl, who was under the age of 15 at the time of the incident, sent the defendant the photos, according to the prosecutor, who did not disclose the girl’s exact age.

Mr. Callwood shared the photographs with an acquaintance, who reported the matter to the Social Development Department and police, Mr. Kelly added.

Police later charged Mr. Callwood with child pornography, according to the Crown.

While the prosecutor was reading the allegations, the disgruntled defendant frequently spoke out of turn and claimed he was being treated unfairly by the prosecutors and the presiding magistrate, Ayanna Baptiste-Dabreo.

Mr. Callwood, who is currently on remand for previous allegations, was ordered to return to court on April 8.

He does not have an attorney.
