An initial hearing was held at Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the man who was accused in late April of having a Glock nine-millimetre semi-automatic pistol at his parents’ home.

Wayne Stoutt Jr., a 26-year-old boat captain, faces charges of keeping a firearm without a licence and illegally possessing explosives.

He pleaded not guilty to the explosives charge, but it’s unclear whether that plea was official because he consulted with his attorney, Stephen Daniels, before the other charge was read and asked for the hearing to be delayed.

“At the next hearing, we will take a certain action,” Mr. Daniels said, promising that he and his client “won’t waste the court’s time.”

Over the last weekend of April, police executed a search warrant where Mr. Stoutt resides and found an illegal firearm and seven rounds of ammunition, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

After he was charged, the defendant was released on $10,000 police bail. Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo extended that bail, but increased the terms to $30,000.

Mr. Stoutt is scheduled to return to court on July 4.
