Jeremy Williams, who recently pleaded guilty to burglary , was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Magistrates’ Court Monday: six months for the burglary, and 12 for violating the terms of a suspended sentence.

“You had two years to stay out of trouble,” Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens said, “and you failed to do so.”

Mr. Williams was allegedly linked to a May 20, 2011 break-in of Courtesy Car Rental in Road Town.

Forensic DNA evidence discovered on the premises matched a sample taken from Mr. Williams, prosecutors said.  He was formally charged on June 5, 2012.

During litigation the 32-year-old Horse Path resident said he had “changed his ways,” according to Ms. Stephens. She said she took that into account along with his early guilty plea in handing down the sixth-month sentence.

Of the 12 months, she said, “He has to do that time, not in relation to this matter.”
