John Maduro appeared at the Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face allegations that he punched another man at the Central Administration Building in Road Town on April 27, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and being armed with an offensive weapon.

At his previous court appearance in October 2015, Crown Counsel Chantal Flax-Ward alleged that the defendant’s wife accused the virtual complainant of refusing to apologise after touching her buttocks at the complex.

After his wife informed him about the incident, Ms. Flax-Ward said, Mr. Maduro came to the complex and punched the complainant.

The prosecutor claimed that the defendant then reached for a cutlass at his waist, but the complainant’s co-workers wrestled the weapon away from him.

Mr. Maduro later told police that he wanted to defend his wife’s honour, according to Ms. Flax-Ward.

Mr. Maduro, who is out on $45,000 bail, was ordered to return for his trial on Feb. 10.
