The idea of the Virgin Islands as a medical tourism destination has been discussed for years, but it got a boost in June when the United States-based Atlantic Clinic performed its first surgery on a medical tourist at Peebles Hospital.

Officials from the Atlantic Clinic spoke on Friday at the most recent session of the “Conversations with Business BVI” series, discussing their hopes for doing many more medical tourism-related operations here and explaining how that could benefit the territory.

At the event, Atlantic Clinic cofounder and neurosurgeon Dr. David Vincent said that his company reached an agreement with the BVI Health Services Authority in June.

Dr. Vincent didn’t go into detail about the agreement, but he said the deal allows Atlantic Company to bring patients and surgeons to operate at Peebles Hospital, paying the BVIHSA for the use of the facilities.
