An appeal made by Andrew “Ratti” Milton and Dennis “Soupy” Campbell, who were convicted of murder and conspiracy to murder in 2009, was dismissed by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in a judgment handed down last week.

In October 2009, the men were convicted of murdering Dorcas “Louise” Rhule and conspiring to murder Keriann Ebanks, Mr. Milton’s sister.

They were each sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder with eligibility for parole after 35 years. For conspiracy to murder, they each received a 10-year prison sentence, to run concurrently.

In January, they appealed their conviction and sentence, alleging inadequate direction on the part of the trial judge and claiming that their sentence was too severe.

But Justice Davidson Kelvin Baptiste, who signed the judgment along with Justices Mario Michel and Don Mitchell, thought otherwise.

“The sentencing judge imposed a sentence that reflected the seriousness of the offence, paying due regard to the aggravating and mitigating factors,” the judgment states.
