Health officials should bring a proposal regarding plans for a Virgin Gorda mini-hospital to the public for review “very soon,” Health and Social Development Minister Ronnie Skelton said Monday.

Mr. Skelton said the ministry has received several proposals already for the facility. The goal is to begin construction “as early as next year,” Mr. Skelton said on the National Democratic Party’s Monday radio programme.

“It’s the second project on our list,” Mr. Skelton said. He has previously stated that the new hospital on Tortola is the top-priority project.

Land had been cleared and a groundbreaking was expected under the previous Virgin Islands Party administration.

“I am very optimistic that the formal ground-breaking for that health facility will take place early next year,” said then-minister of health Dancia Penn in October 2008.
