A missing 17-year-old girl from Virgin Gorda was found Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Stanisha Fontaine was reported missing by her parents after several attempts to locate her proved futile.

Their last contact with their daughter was June 9, when she indicated she was on Tortola and had missed her return ferry to Virgin Gorda, according to police, who did not explain why her disappearance was not announced until Monday.

Police said Ms. Fontaine is now in the care of the Social Development Department, and that they will continue to investigate the matter.

This marks the second recent disappearance of a Virgin Gorda resident. Gun Creek resident John Emmanuel was reported missing May 22, and the 66-year-old, who has Alzheimer’s disease, has not been found.
