As part of efforts to protect the community from the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which carries dengue fever, the Environmental Health Division will start its pre-hurricane fogging operations next week.

From Monday through Thursday, fogging will be carried out in Road Town, Huntums Ghut, Lower Estate, Long Bush, McNamara and Road Reef, according to Government Information Services.

From Tuesday through Thursday, it also will be carried out in Brewers Bay, Cane Garden Bay and Beef Island, including the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

“Fogging will take place in the evenings between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. until all the relevant areas are treated,” said Minchington Israel, vector control manager in the Environmental Health Division.

Mr. Israel advised residents with respiratory illnesses to leave the areas being fogged for at least an hour.

In the event of inclement weather, fogging will be delayed and will resume on the next available day, according to GIS.

As fogging provides only temporary relief from mosquitoes, residents are urged to help prevent mosquitoes from breeding in stagnant water around their homes and businesses.
