Kavarne Richards, 28, of Long Look, appeared in Magistrates’ Court Monday afternoon to be formally charged in connection with the 2013 murder of Melbourne Francis.

Prosecutors said in court that an eyewitness account placed Mr. Richards in the area of the murder with another person in the vehicle he was driving.

Further, the prosecution claims to have a witness who heard Andraes Norford, 23, now being held by St. Kitts authorities, admit to killing Mr. Francis. That witness heard Mr. Norford implicate Mr. Richards as the getaway driver, according to the prosecution.

Mr. Richards, who is being represented by Stephen Daniels, is on remand and is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 12.

Mr. Francis was gunned down near the Stickett in East End on May 9 of last year, shortly before he was expected to testify in an attempted-murder trial involving a 2011 incident when he was shot – again, near the Stickett.

The victim had withdrawn from the territory’s witness protection programme shortly before he was killed.
