Digicel and the National Basketball Association have partnerned to host several youth basketball clinics in the region.

In the Virgin Islands, the Digicel Jumpstart Clinic was held on Aug. 24-26.

Other hosts will include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos.

The player development clinics are run by NBA staff, including coach Bob MacKinnon Jr. All told, hundreds of players and coaches from across the Caribbean will take part in the programme.

“Over the next five weeks, these clinics that we are going to be running will be bringing together hundreds of coaches and players throughout the region to continue to grow the game of basketball,” said NBA Director of Basketball Operations Troy Justice.

The two-day clinics feature 40 players ages 16 and under. Additionally, a one-day clinic is held for coaches.

The best players from each nation will be selected for an elite camp on Sept. 26-28 in Trinidad and Tobago.

The top eight players from the elite camp will have an opportunity to attend a NBA game in the United States.

“I’m so confident that each participant will represent their families and communities to the highest standard possible, and take all the learnings from the clinic to jumpstart their dreams,” said Jason Edwin, coach and Digicel brand ambassador.
