At the House of Assembly last month, Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn tabled the 2016 Education Regulations, buttressing the 2004 Education Act with a set of specific rules and standards.

“These help bring the Education Act to life,” he said on Tuesday, noting that the regulations formalise numerous procedures and guidelines that could not be squeezed into the act itself.

The regulations touch on topics like student councils, dress codes for principals and teachers, rules for establishing private schools, disciplinary standards, and qualifications for students entitled to a public education.

“This has been a long time coming,” said Mr. Walwyn, who congratulated his ministry for finishing the 78-page document.

The level of detail in the regulations took a lot of time and effort to craft, he added.
