Another peaceful election.

It doesn’t sound particularly glamorous, but especially during a year when so many new democracies have formed in the Middle East and North Africa – often with protests or violence – free, fair and peaceful elections are something to feel good about.

All around the territory Monday, people calmly cast their votes, and the only reported incident of violence – a shooting in Diamond Estate – happened away from polling places and was not said by police to be related to Polling Day.

“Everything went very well,” said Deputy Police Commissioner David Morris shortly after the official elections results were counted on Tuesday. “We heard no reports of problems whatsoever; everybody was orderly.”

Mr. Morris added that for the next election, the police may review the staffing and scheduling of officers.

“A lot of them came on work at 4 yesterday morning and were still here just finishing off now,” he said.
