Last weekend, One Love jump started its season with a double-digit win against VG Utd., while the Sugar Boys took a win over the Rebels, 5-1, as the BVI Football Association’s national league continued at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.

One Love shut out VG Utd., who sits at the bottom of the standings, with a 10-0 victory.

In the ninth minute, Trevor Ellis scored first, beating the keeper at his near post. Carl Stewart scored the first of what was to become a hat trick in the 22nd minute, while other goals came from Damien Morgan and Oshane Rose.

Richard Morgan scored in the second half along with Andre Thomas. Mr. Stewart completed his hat trick after scoring the final goal of the match.

The Sugar Boys then cemented their second-place standing with a  5-1 win over the Rebels, who suffered their second loss to teams in the top four.

Derol Redhead scored in the fourth minute, which was matched by opponent Michael Baptichon’s penalty in the 11th minute. Mr. Redhead  put the Sugar Boys back ahead less than a minute later and Mohamed Kaschour made it 3-1 in the 17th minute.

Terrance Nanton increased the lead with a goal in the 79th minute and Akeem Hendrikson rounded out the 5-1 win with a goal in the 84th.

On Sunday, the Panthers lost to Old Madrid, 2-0.

The Panthers could not stop the penalty kicks in each half converted by the league’s top scorer Kenmore Peters.

The league continues this weekend.
