Two former employees of the Dominica National Lottery are being sued for allegedly issuing tickets without paying for them, and illegally redeeming winnings, according to documents filed with the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

A claim filed by J. Astaphan & Co., the retail agent for the Dominica National Lottery, states that former DNL employees Mary-Ann Lee and Norlyse Baptiste were responsible for selling tickets for various lotteries, including a game called Hot Cash.

Between January 2009 and March 2010, Mses. Lee and Baptiste issued tickets for Hot Cash and other games without paying for them, and also illegally redeemed about $45,000 in winnings from those tickets, according to J. Astaphan & Co.’s claim against them.

All in all, the company lost about $152,000 from the alleged actions of Mses. Lee and Baptiste, the claim states.

The defendants, for their part, deny the allegations against them and claim that the winnings they received were from tickets they purchased from other lottery agents, according to court documents.
