A former Peebles Hospital employee who was accused of assaulting a patient on Nov. 4 has been disciplined, and he no longer works at the facility, according to BVI Health Services Authority officials.

Kindal Vanterpool, of Botanic Gardens, was arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm after allegedly attacking a patient who was at the hospital’s pharmacy to collect medication.

“Disciplinary action was taken against the employee in question in accordance with the Labour Code Section 101 and the BVIHSA Code of Conduct,” BVIHSA CEO Paula Chester-Cumberbatch stated in a press release.

According to Section 101 of the Labour Code, “An employer is entitled to dismiss summarily, without notice, an employee who is guilty of serious misconduct of a nature that it would be unreasonable to require the employer to continue the employment contract.”

BVIHSA Marketing and Communications Manager Franka Potter confirmed lastThursday that Mr. Vanterpool is no longer employed by the statutory body.

In a previous press release, Ms. Chester-Cumberbatch explained that the injured patient received immediate treatment at the hospital.

“The BVIHSA assures the public that patient care and safety remains a top priority,” she said.

Mr. Vanterpool is scheduled to appear at the Magistrates’ Court on Feb. 10.
